●Pin-point-LED chip
A Pin-point-LED is an LED that has a small emitting part in a dot shape. Generally, for sensors that perform precise measurements, such as those that detect the scale of an optical encoder, a smaller emitting part diameter is advantageous for the light source. For example, if the size of the object being measured, such as a scale, is larger than the beam diameter emitted from a Surface-emitting-LED, the shadow cast on the object may become blurred due to diffraction of light, which can decrease detection accuracy. With Pin-point-LEDs, which have a smaller emitting part diameter, the beam diameter can be reduced, enabling sharper shadows to be cast on the object. Therefore, Pin-point-LEDs are advantageous as light sources for sensors that perform precise measurements, such as detecting the scale of an optical encoder. KODENSHI develops and produces Pin-point-LED chips in red (650nm), infrared (820nm, 850nm), and with side-emission prevention type.
